It is with great sadness that the Diocese of leeds has announced the death on Tuesday 18 June of Deacon Peter Rudd, who served the Parish of Sacred Heart and St William’s, Uppermill.
Please pray for the repose of his soul and for his family and friends at this time.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.
Deacon Peter was born in 1937 in Nairobi, Kenya where his father worked in the Colonial Service. He was educated by the Benedictines at their school at Worth in Sussex. After National Service in the Royal Navy, he married his wife Stella in 1961. In 1976 they moved to Uppermill, and the parish of the Sacred Heart and St William. In 2004 Peter began a period of discernment and training for the Permanent Diaconate, encouraged by his Parish Priest Fr Joseph Falloon. He was ordained a Permanent Deacon at Leeds Cathedral on 26 March 2010 by the then Bishop of Leeds, Bishop Arthur Roche. Thus began many years of devoted service to the priests and people of the Uppermill parish. Deacon Peter had been ill for some time before he died in hospital on Tuesday 18 June 2024.
May he rest in peace
