The Diocese of Salford is sorry to share the sad news that Fr Colin Wright died peacefully at his home on Sunday 25th August.
Fr Wright was in his 79th year, the 41st year of his Sacred Priesthood.
John Colin was born on 29th August 1945 in Moseley, Birmingham and baptised on 14th October 1945 at Christ Church Anglican church in Birmingham. He was received into the Catholic Church and Confirmed at St Dunstan’s, Kings Heath, Birmingham on 9th December 1979. Colin was educated at the C of E school at Treales and Car Hill Secondary Modern in Kirkham. He continued to further his education with Evening Classes while in employment.
Colin was accepted as an Ecclesiastical student for the Diocese of Salford in April 1980 and studied the Beda College in Rome from September 1980.
Father Colin Wright was ordained to the Priesthood on 16th June 1984 at St Dunstan’s, Kings Heath, Birmingham.
Fr Wright served:
1984-1986: St. Mary, Eccles as Assistant Priest
1986-1989: St. Dunstan, Moston as Assistant Priest
1998-2000: St. Anne, Accrington as Assistant Priest (Parish Priest from 1992)
2000-2012: Holy Infant, Astley Bridge as Parish Priest
2012-2022: St Bernadette, Withington as Parish Priest
Fr Colin retired in October 2022 and continued to reside in St. Bernadette’s Presbytery.
Fr Wright’s body will be received into St Cuthbert’s Church, Withington for concelebrated Mass at 7.00pm on Thursday 10th October. Bishop John will celebrate the Requiem Mass at St. Cuthbert’s on Friday 11th October at 11:00am.
