The Diocese of Westminster is delighted to announce the appointment of Catherine Edginton as Head of Safeguarding from 2nd September 2024.
Catherine has been the Senior Safeguarding Lead and Technical Advisor at the Charity Commission since 2019. Before her time at the Commission, she served as Detective Chief Inspector in the Metropolitan Police with a specific focus on safeguarding. She served in the North West Command unit, Hackney and Enfield.
Speaking of her appointment, Catherine said: ‘I feel really fortunate to have been given this opportunity to join the Diocese of Westminster and to lead its Safeguarding team. Those I’ve met during my initial visits have been really welcoming and I already feel part of the team.
‘Being passionate about safeguarding and protecting people I am excited to bring my skills and experience acquired during my policing career and more latterly as the Senior Safeguarding Lead for the Charity Commission for England and Wales to my new role and to build on the good work already being done across the Diocese to create an embedded culture and practice of safeguarding.’
Echoing these words, Cardinal Vincent Nichols said: ‘I am delighted that Catherine has accepted the appointment to be the new Head of Safeguarding for the Diocese of Westminster. I look forward to her leadership as we continue building a culture of safeguarding in all the work we do.’
